(Innate Matter) presents the work of emerging visual artist Kimvi Nguyen as she reacts to the occupation of the Bargate Monument Gallery space. Through the use of symbolic representation of material and form ‘(Innate Matter)’ investigates the quality of tension, balance and time. Contemplation is given to ephemeral quality of the artist’s chosen materials, processes and installation.

Since graduating from Winchester School of Art in 2011 Kimvi has been involved in a number of projects in the local area, including a collaborative performance ‘Companion Of Space’ in the quire of Winchester Cathedral as part of the ‘10 Days Across The City’ Arts Festival. Kimvi’s work spans printmaking, site-specific, performance, collaboration and sculpture in a rich and coherent manner.

The work presented in the exhibition will be a combination of sculpture, installation and time based. Each of these qualities are seen as a physical dialogue through the use of magnets, wood, bronze and a balloon, Kimvi’s response to their innate nature brings out the language of the quality of sensitivity and contemplation with simplistic effect.

Thankyou to everyone at Morris Singer Art Foundry Limited and Daniel Crow from aspace art organisation, whom have made this project possible.

Home Hub: a group show featuring the Chapel artists + several guests

In association with One World Week, Chapel Arts Studios are running a week of off-site activities and an exhibition. ‘Home Hub’ responds to notions of sustainability, interdependency, community and communication.

From 1st-5th October, studio artists David Dixon and Alessandra Cattaneo will be appearing across Andover. Alessandra’s project ‘cuppa’ is sponsored by Twinings and is based around the communal act of sharing and drinking tea. David will be initially working as a mobile public-controlled camera, as he documents the local environment for his Unified Theory Project. The results of both of these will be added to the group exhibition in the studios from 6-8th October and on the accompanying online blog sites.

The exhibition will also feature new work from artists: Tom Mortimer, Kimvi Nguyen, Kate Theodore and Deborah Skinner.

Hear One Near and Think of the Other, Out Now On Dragon’s Eye Recordings

The new release ‘Hear One Near and Think of the Other’ by Mimosa|Moize is now out on Dragon’s Eye Recordings. It is a 9 track, CDR edition of 200, with beautiful cover artwork provided by Kimvi Nguyen.

‘Hear One Near and Think of the Other stands as a recent work in an ongoing interest in the notion of a moment. Originally a concept created for a live performance, this composition variation further explores the perception and interaction of a moment through sound specifically. In utilising the documentation of the previous performance, these moments passed are revisited through the act of listening and remembering. This process is to then form the foundation and building towards the creation of new moments, yet staying faithful to both the past and to the approaching.’
